So with that in mind, I reached out to a few local hairstylists and make-up artists. I was able to get in touch with two: Hairstylist Jamie VanCuren and Make-Up Artist Laurie Edwards. They took time to sit down with me about their expertise in turning people into Halloween Masterpieces.
So just tell me a little about your specialties first. Jamie let's start with you.

(Terra Hair Salon and Day Spa)
Awesome and Laurie?
My specialty in makeup would have to be blending bright colors and the ability to completely transform someone with just a little color.
(MakebyLaurie)
Making someone over, transforming people. That sounds perfect for what is the ultimate day of transformation.
Speaking of, Halloween is coming up, do you ladies do anything special at that time?
Ultimate Makeover: Halloween Edition is what I am looking for.
Jamie: I usually will still dress up with costume, makeup, and hair. I love Halloween.
Laurie: Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday so I usually dress up.
Anyone made an appointment and said "make me look like The Bride of Chucky."
Laurie: I do actually have a few appointments made this year for Halloween transformations such as zombies and scary clowns.
Jamie: I had people come in last year. I did a woman who wanted to look like Edward Scissorhands because she had bought the female version (of the costume).
Edward Scissorhands, Zombies, and Clowns Oh my!
So what would be do's and don'ts on Halloween for make-up and hair? For guys and girls.
Jamie: I don't think there's many dont's. It's Halloween, a day to take full advantage of being different and something you're not. Maybe my only don't is do not use permanent color! Otherwise, go crazy and do take advantage of the day.
Laurie: be adventurous! It's the one day and year that if there was anything you have ever been afraid to try, THIS IS YOUR TIME TO DO IT! Dress appropriately depending on your plans for Halloween. Dress accordingly. If there's going to be children around you probably shouldn't get your costume from Lovers Lane. Haha.
Jamie: True! Some people need to be a little more modest with some costumes!
Its a day to be something different not wear a bra and panties with cat ears and say you're a cat. Haha.
Bring some creativity with the costumes, and be adventurous. Perfect! Good tips. Do you recommend any products that can last a Halloween night of dancing and sweating?
Laurie: Mac acrylic paints is a personal favorite. It moves with you and lasts through sweating. It can be a little pricey. Something you need to take into consideration if you're coming out on Halloween with full face paint on you probably should be prepared to do some retouching.
Jamie: Well if you want your hair to last I always recommend a good hair spray. Anything with a good hold. Last year I did a friends hair and she was a girl from the 80's and we went old school and bought some Aqua Net Haha.
Jamie: Well my suggestion to the guys is if you have the hair to do something with then go all out otherwise wigs can help pull there look together.
Laurie: Do it! You don't see too many men wanting to be very adventurous in the makeup department on Halloween...you just might want to get a close shave first before putting on any face paint.
So what if someone were to want your services for this coming Halloween. Where can they find you?
Laurie: www.facebook.com/makeupbylaurie
Jamie: They can find me at Terra Salon and Day Spa it is in St John, IN. Right off Indianapolis Blvd and the number is 219-365-6305.
Anything else you guys would like to add?
Laurie: I'd like to say that when experimenting with makeup don't be afraid. Makeup is all about trial and error, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't just be adventurous and be confident.
Jamie: I would like to add that just a suggestion for people wanting something different or who are maybe doing their hair for something bigger than just trick or treating TRIALS can and will be your best friend. Because communication is key. Its a lot easier for a stylist to get it perfect the second time and most stylists will only charge a small fee for a practice run when they know you're coming back. Its worth it.
Thank you Ladies your time is appreciated.
Both: No problem.
